Marvel's What if...? Season 3 Episode 6, The dangers of Power.(Spoilers!!!)

The Watcher interferes.

This episode of What if...? Is based on a battleworld story, Marvel 1872, where as marvel 1602 was justified using a time anomaly, marvel 1872, which is a spaghetti western using marvel characters, is justified using a overarching dictator called the hood who has kept the west in a time-locked state.

And while unlike Marvel 1602 which was justified using a Time Anomaly that caused the world to be on the verge of extinction, this one has no timey whimey wibbly wobbly stuff, Like Marvel 1602, this world could have had a very bad fate were it not, for the intervention of one Multiversal Warrior namely Captain Carter.

And also like Marvel 1602, this old Western style Marvel story is the beginning of the big third act everybody comes together battle, as right after 1602, Carter was called in by Strange Supreme to solve another multiversal threat, which unfortunately was himself.

And originally I thought to focus only on this aspect of the episode, because by the end, Uatu is taken away from his duties and Trapped by the other watchers, specifically for his interference this time around.

What was his interference? Well he knocked off a couple of goons in order to save one kid, who would go on to save the day by ringing a bell.

Who's ringing that bell?

And yes, the main story of this episode is interesting, but it is only a backdrop to show what caused the Watcher to finally break, so originally I was going to ignore it, but the more I think about it, I believe this story is important, and goes to show exactly why the Watcher Oath Exists.

First let's see what he does to help, he simply flicks his fingers and the two fall off, that level of power is scary, I mean I'm not the only one who thought that right?

Secondly, in this story, the hero, is a Robin hood type, an outlaw who saves/works for the people and he is trying to save his sister, who ran away from her father because he had too much power.

She goes to the west to "live her dream" as that is the story that is sold, and is presumably killed/taken captive by another very powerful villain.

By the end, it turns out, she killed him and took over, so the villain, was the one you were trying to save.

It is very clearly visible that her "evil nature" is caused by putting on the hood of the Previous Hood, but in this case, "The hood" is a metaphor for power, and it's corrupting nature, it is very important that Xialing wanted to (in her head) save everybody, it's like it is said, the path to hell is paved with good intentions.

So yes, too much unchecked power, and this is what ends up happening, the Watcher is unchecked power.

So he needs to be put in check, it can be said of course that just because someone needs to be put in check, doesn't mean any and all action against them is justified, therefore I am not saying this to Justify the world view of the other Watchers, just that, there is reason behind their actions.

Oh also also, foreshadowing for things going forwards, the Hood will be one of the villains of the Iron Heart shows according the some reports, and the previous episode was focused on Riri Williams or Iron Heart she is related to Iron man, who is related to Obidiah Stane, who was in episode three which had the Winter Soldier and the Red Guardian in it Alluding to their future team up in Thunderbolts*
